The Tapison Home Kilim Peacock 728 works with a compositional logic that reveals itself gradually. Inside that wide teal frame, separated from the field by a narrow ivory guard stripe, lies a dense arrangement of diamonds in rust orange, slate blue, olive, mustard and deep aubergine on an ivory ground. Inside each large diamond sits a smaller one, and inside that, smaller still — so the pattern keeps unfolding the longer you look at it. The ivory ground lets every colour sit forward rather than blur together. The teal border does the opposite, pulling the eye back to the edge and giving the whole composition somewhere to rest.
