Collection: Fading World Medallion Rugs | Louis de Poortere
A medallion rug that has been left in the sun for a hundred years, except it has not. Fading World Medallion takes the central medallion of a classical Persian rug and lets it dissolve, so the pattern reads as a memory of itself. It is the Louis de Poortere design that goes into the most rooms, because a faded pattern sits under anything.
Fourteen colourways, one pattern
The design stays the same and the palette does the work. Blue Night and Grey Turquoise for a cool room, Scarlet and Pink Flash for a warm one, Jade and Majestic Forest for green, Stone and Salt & Pepper when the pattern should almost disappear, Mineral Black and Grey Ebony when it should not. Fourteen in all.
Washable, and it goes outside
Woven in 100% PET, which is what makes this rug washable and suitable for outdoor use. A covered terrace in summer, the dining room in winter, the same rug. Rain will not ruin it and sun will not bleach it the way it would wool.
Woven in Belgium, and thin on purpose
Made in Belgium on jacquard looms, in a flat weave between 0.3 and 0.5 cm. That thinness is the point. It sits flat under a door, dining chairs slide over it rather than catching, it works over underfloor heating and lets the warmth through, and it is anti-allergic and anti-static.
Sizes and how to choose
80 by 150, 140 by 200, 170 by 240, 200 by 280, 240 by 340 and 280 by 390 cm. 80 by 150 for a hallway or beside a bed. 200 by 280 for a three seater with an armchair. 240 by 340 over a six seater dining table, so chairs stay on the rug when pulled out. 280 by 390 for an open plan room. Caught between two sizes, take the larger one.
Fading World Medallion questions, answered
What is a Fading World Medallion rug made of?
100% PET, woven on jacquard looms in Belgium, flat rather than piled. PET is what makes it washable and fit for outdoor use.
Can a Fading World rug be used outdoors?
Yes. A terrace, a veranda or a garden room are all fine. Bringing it in over winter will make it last longer.
Is it washable?
Yes. Being PET rather than wool, it can be cleaned with water and a mild detergent rather than dry methods only. Vacuum regularly and blot spills instead of rubbing them.
Does it work over underfloor heating?
Yes. At 0.3 to 0.5 cm it is thin enough to let the heat through.
