Golden mustard at the edges, deepening to ochre towards the middle. Delos Mustard by Acsento draws two frames across its surface in fine raised lines of wool, which makes it graphic and gentle in the same breath, a bit like sunlight falling across a wall.
A rug this warm alters the mood of a whole room. Lay it on polished concrete in a kitchen extension with grey upholstery and white walls and it works like a lit fire, or pair it with terracotta cushions and pale ash for something sunnier. Let it be the one strong colour and keep the rest quiet. A sofa grouping needs 200 x 290 cm, a dining table for six 240 x 340 cm, and a bedroom will be happy with 160 x 230 cm.
Each Delos is made by hand tufting in India: a wool face, a cotton backing and a full pile of about 18 mm that springs back underfoot. It can go on underfloor heating. Small differences in dimensions and colour are part of a handmade rug. New wool lets go of some fluff at first, so vacuum regularly without a beater brush until it settles. Blot spills immediately and resist the urge to rub.
