Sand coloured, finely lined and covered in rows of short chocolate and mocha marks, Acsento Papyrus Beige looks like a ledger kept in an invented alphabet. In places the marks crowd together, elsewhere they thin out almost to nothing.
The pattern is lively, yet the colours are earthy, so it is easier to place than you might think. On dark stained floorboards in a Victorian terrace it lifts the whole room, and on pale oak the brown marks add depth. Keep furniture low and simple and let the rug lead. Most living rooms take 200 x 290 cm. For bedrooms there is 160 x 230 cm, and 240 x 330 cm is the one for a dining table seating six.
Papyrus is machine woven in Belgium from heatset polypropylene, a yarn with a soft, almost woolly handle that is easy to look after. The dense pile is 11 mm and the rug is fine to use with underfloor heating. Vacuum it regularly, and should something spill, blot promptly with a dry cloth.
