Rust, ochre, charcoal and a little soft sage are laid down in short, dry strokes on Acsento Siena 45, stacked into loose columns on a cream ground and fading out at the edges as though the brush ran dry. It has the energy of an abstract canvas, yet the earthy palette keeps it easy company.
Hang nothing too busy nearby and let this be the art on the floor. It brings oak, linen and stone into conversation in an Edwardian sitting room or a calm new build, and gives a neutral scheme a clear focal point. Keep a good part of the design uncovered by furniture so it can be read. The 200 x 290 cm takes a three seater and two armchairs, while the 240 x 340 cm sits under a table for six and the 160 x 230 cm beside a bed.
A Belgian machine woven rug, Siena has a soft, gently lustrous pile of about 8 mm. The yarn is polyester, three quarters of it recycled, and the backing is non slip latex. It is suitable for underfloor heating. Vacuum it regularly, and catch spills early with a clean cloth, pressing rather than wiping.
