Late summer, not spring, is the season of Element Lane Green. A wide sweep of olive meets a rounded shape in ochre yellow, with a thin crescent of pale cream along the outer edge, as if a few fallen leaves had come to rest on top of each other. The tones are mellow and gently faded. The pile is cut just short enough to keep the contours crisp, yet deep enough to feel plush.

Olive and ochre are at their best with natural materials: honey toned wood, cane, linen and a chrome framed chair in dark leather. In open plan living with a grey screed floor, the rug brings in the warmth that bare screed never has. Its wandering outline suits places where a rectangle feels stiff, such as a reading corner by the window or the spot where a hallway opens into the living room. The 157 x 200 cm size fits a nook by the window, while 188 x 240 cm sits well before a sofa.

Brink & Campman have Element Lane hand tufted in India in 100% pure new wool. Its pile is cut to 14 mm over a reverse of cotton and latex. Lacking straight sides, its size is the greatest width by the greatest length. Underfloor heating beneath it is fine. Any slight irregularity of shape or shade simply shows the work of human hands. Loose wool fibres appear in the beginning and fade with steady vacuuming. If you spill something, dab it with a clean cloth and do not rub.
