Moss green, but only just. Loom Natural Moss is mostly cream and oatmeal beige, with strands of green, earthy brown and soft grey scattered through it the way lichen creeps across a garden wall. Its thick felted yarns stand at different heights, giving a pebbly, shaggy texture that invites bare feet.
Picture a cottage snug with low beams and a flagstone floor that is lovely to look at and chilly to stand on. This rug fixes that, adding warmth and a quiet hint of green that sits happily with plants, linen, pale wood and a cream sofa. In a bedroom it brings in a little of the outdoors and suits bedding in ecru or olive. Choose 160 x 230 cm for the snug or beside the bed, and 200 x 300 cm once a three seater and an armchair need to share it.
Natural Moss comes from the Netherlands, where Brink & Campman weave it on an axminster loom in 100% pure new wool. The felted yarn forms a pile of about 45 mm with uneven heights, set on a jute and cotton backing. You can use it with underfloor heating. A few weeks of light shedding are typical for new wool. Choose a vacuum head with no rotating brush, dab spills dry immediately rather than scrubbing, and shake the pile loose every so often.
