Greige is the colour behind so many good British interiors, and Senso Blocks Soft Taupe gets it exactly right: a cool taupe edging towards grey, flecked with paler fibres. Three long rectangles are stacked along its length, outlined by a fine raised ridge of the same wool, their corners just a touch irregular so the geometry looks drawn by hand.
It belongs in a calm, pared back room. Picture a sofa in stone linen, a travertine coffee table and a chunky knitted throw, all resting on a floor that does not compete. On limestone, large tiles or polished concrete in a kitchen extension, the matt wool softens the hard surfaces. Go for 200 x 280 cm in a living room, 250 x 350 cm for a generous open plan space, and 140 x 200 or 160 x 230 cm for a bedroom.
Brink & Campman weave Senso flat by hand in India from pure new wool, about 6 mm high. There is no backing, so the rug stays supple and lies low enough for doors to pass over it, but on a smooth floor you will want a non slip underlay. It is suitable for underfloor heating. A few loose fibres in the first weeks are normal for new wool, and a smooth vacuum nozzle deals with them.
