Lighter and darker fibres are spun together in Senso Border Fur Brown, so a single camel brown takes on a warm, slightly speckled depth. Into it are woven three frames, each smaller than the last, raised as a cord in the same shade. The bordered rug is a familiar idea, reduced here to a relief you can follow with your fingertips.
Characterful materials suit it best, from a block of weathered oak used as a side table to a black metal tray or a clay plastered wall, and the rug ties them all together. On a pale grey floor it takes off the chill. Arrange the sofa so its front feet stand inside the outer frame, and sofa and rug become a single group. With painted panelling in soft olive and ecru linen, the palette is complete. 200 x 280 cm suits most sitting rooms.
Made by hand in India as a flatweave of pure new wool, it lies only around 6 mm high, so it suits a dining area as happily as a sitting room or bedroom. It may go over underfloor heating. A non slip underlay is needed on smooth floors, since there is no backing. A smooth vacuum nozzle is all the upkeep it asks for, and a spill comes out best when you blot it rather than rub.
