Bordered rugs are a classic in British homes, and Senso Border Natural keeps only the bare bones of the idea. Three rectangular frames nest one inside the next, each traced by a fine woven ridge on a plain ground of warm sand. There is no second colour and no ornament, just relief and the light that finds it. The oatmeal tone has a gentle mélange, and the flat surface feels dry and even.
The symmetry makes a bedroom feel restful. Centre a double bed on 200 x 280 cm so the outer frame shows evenly all round, and your first step every morning lands on wool rather than cold boards. White or sand linen, a rough oak stool beside the bed and chalky matt walls complete it. In a sitting room with a period fireplace, the same calm works with pale stone and one sculptural chair.
Indian weavers make Senso Border by hand as a 6 mm flatweave, and the yarn is entirely pure new wool. It has no backing, so add a non slip underlay on smooth floors, and it is suitable for underfloor heating. Upkeep is refreshingly simple. Vacuum often with a plain head and keep rotating brushes away, then press a dry cloth onto spills and leave rubbing out of it.
