Under an evening lamp, the raised line on Senso Level Fur Brown glows a shade paler than the ground around it. That ground is a warm camel, somewhere between caramel and light hazelnut, spun as a mélange of sand and deeper brown fibres. Two rectangles are drawn on it, one framing the rug, the other sitting lower inside with its base stepping just outside the frame.
This is the rug to gather a sitting area around. An ecru bouclé or natural linen sofa, cognac leather, a walnut table and a handful of earthy ceramics all sit comfortably with it. On limewashed boards or pale oak the brown becomes the warm heart of the room, while on dark stained wood it settles in more quietly. In the through lounge of a Victorian terrace, 200 x 280 cm covers the seating end nicely.
Senso Level is hand woven in India as a slim flatweave, around 6 mm, entirely in pure new wool. Dining chairs slide over it easily, so it works under a table as well. There is no backing, which means a non slip underlay on smooth floors. Underfloor heating suits it. Give it a regular vacuum with a smooth nozzle, and deal with spills by dabbing gently with a dry cloth.
