Seen from above, Senso Planes Natural looks a little like a plan drawn on tracing paper. Three rectangles of different sizes overlap just off centre, sketched in a fine relief line on a warm sand ground close to oatmeal. A soft mélange in the yarn keeps the colour from going flat, and the weave feels firm and pleasantly dry under bare feet.
Calm, light rooms are where it shines. In a mansion block flat with tall windows and pale boards, add a cream side table, sheer linen at the glass and one good vase, and the space feels finished but never busy. Late afternoon sun catches the raised lines and throws a hairline shadow, which is when the design really appears. 140 x 200 cm works at the foot of a bed, 200 x 280 cm in a Scandinavian style sitting room.
Hand weavers in India make Senso as a flat, backless weave of pure new wool. At about 6 mm it is slim enough for doors to clear, and it is suitable for underfloor heating. On smooth floors it stays put only with a non slip underlay. Loose fibres from new wool are normal in the beginning and grow fewer with every vacuum, ideally with a plain nozzle and no spinning brush.
