Chestnut, camel and taupe all wander through Sober Soft Brown, with paler cream threads surfacing and fading again across the width. Nothing is printed or flat dyed, so the shade drifts gently from row to row. The weave is chunky and tactile, made of small rounded loops of thick wool that sit shoulder to shoulder and show every stitch.
Brown is back, and this is one of the easiest ways to let it in. In a cottage with beams and flagstones, or a new build with pale oak, it goes happily with a low ecru sofa, honey toned panelling, linen and old leather. Pick a size that lets the front feet of the sofa and armchairs sit on the wool, which usually means 200 x 280 cm, or 250 x 350 cm when the seating spreads out.
Sober is woven by hand in Hungary from pure new wool, about 12 mm thick, and has no backing. On tiles, laminate or parquet, a non slip underlay will stop it wandering. It is suitable for underfloor heating. Expect a few stray wool fibres for the first weeks of its life, which is normal and fades as you vacuum. A smooth floor tool is the right attachment, and spilt tea should be dabbed up, not worked in.
