A desert at dusk, painted in wool. Harlequin Saltillo Rosewood runs terracotta, burnt sienna and rust into lilac, heather and dove grey, with a single pale yellow line cutting across like the last light on a ridge. Look closely and you will still find the desert plants of the watercolour it came from.
Colour this warm needs calm around it. White curtains, a pale floor and a bedspread in ochre or mustard let the rug do the talking, and at the foot of a bed it gives bare feet a soft start to the day. A quiet sitting room with walnut furniture suits it equally well. The 170 x 240 cm size works on either side of a double bed, and 200 x 280 cm under a king size.
Rosewood is tufted by hand in India. Its 17 mm pile blends 60% pure new wool with 40% viscose, on cotton and latex, and it can go over underfloor heating. Because viscose dislikes moisture, keep it to a bedroom or calm sitting room and away from spills where you can. Should the worst happen, blot at once, never rub, and leave deeper marks to a professional. Vacuum without a rotating brush.
