Think of hills at dusk, one ridge behind the next. Harlequin Sedimentary Midnight starts pale, in sand and misty grey, then sinks through petrol blue and slate to an inky midnight, and each layer has its own soft, uneven horizon.
Since the shading moves from pale to deep, you can choose which way it faces. With the darkest band beneath the sofa, the seating feels grounded, and turned the other way it pulls you in from the doorway. In an Edwardian sitting room with a deep blue painted wall and a copper lamp, it is quietly dramatic. Choose 200 x 280 cm for most living rooms, 140 x 200 cm for a study, or the 80 x 300 cm runner for a landing.
Made by hand in India, Sedimentary Midnight is tufted from pure new wool to a plush 17 mm, with cotton and latex behind. It suits underfloor heating. Handwork leaves each rug with its own small quirks of size and shade. Dark colours show lint more readily, so vacuum often in the early weeks with the brush off. Spills come out best when you blot them immediately.
