Drift Wool Olive Rug

Late summer in an olive grove, the leaves silver green in the heat: that muted, greyish shade is exactly what this Olive rug from the Drift Wool range brings indoors. Its ribbed pile drifts from sage towards khaki as the light moves round the room, giving a solid colour a quiet shimmer.

Against walls painted in a deep, chalky Farrow and Ball style shade, with a brass lamp and a velvet sofa in ivory or rust, it feels rich without being fussy. It is just as convincing with walnut, terracotta pots and natural linen. Pick 180 x 270 cm for a bedroom or study, 200 x 300 cm to sit under a table seating four to six, 250 x 350 cm to ground a whole sitting room, sofa, side tables and all, and 300 x 400 cm for a large through room.

Hand loomed in Bhadohi, India, it pairs wool with a cotton warp. A blend of cut and loop pile around 15 mm thick forms the fine ribs. Underfloor heating is no problem. Being handmade, each rug can differ slightly in measurements and tone. Some shedding is normal while the wool is new and eases over time. Vacuum regularly with the brush roll off, and dab at any spill with an absorbent towel instead of scrubbing.
