Solid Wool Capulet Olive Rug

Some greens whisper and some sulk, and this rug in Capulet Olive does neither. It is a dark olive wool piece with a close, low pile, and because every row is woven by hand the surface carries faint bands of lighter and deeper green that drift as the daylight does.

Picture it in a Georgian townhouse, beneath tall sash windows, where morning sun slides across the floor and turns the olive almost bronze by noon. Plaster pink walls, a brass reading lamp and a sofa in cream boucle all look rather pleased with themselves against it. For sizing, 180 x 270 cm sits neatly in a modest sitting room, 200 x 300 cm takes a three seater and a pair of armchairs, while 250 x 350 cm and 300 x 400 cm are made for a generous drawing room where every piece of furniture should rest fully on the wool.

Layered, the Swedish rug house, has it woven by hand in India from pure wool, with a dense pile of about 15 mm. It is happy on underfloor heating. Woven by human hands, it can stray a touch in size and shade from one example to the next. Fresh olive wool tends to leave light tufts on the hoover early on, easing week by week, so keep any beater bar disengaged. Should anything spill, blot it gently with a dry cloth rather than rubbing.
