x Massproductions Cord Black White Rug

Look closely at the seams of a well tailored jacket and you will understand the Cord Black White rug. Here a chunky oatmeal wool base meets slim black lines that run its full length, and the surface has a ribbed, almost basket like texture that you feel underfoot before you see it. Loose wool fringes finish both short ends.

It belongs in a warehouse loft, all brick and steel windows, with a pale lounge chair and a long oak table, where the stripes bring order to all that space. The runner is just as good on a landing or along a kitchen island. Sizes: 75 x 240 cm is the runner, 140 x 200 cm sits beside a bed, 180 x 270 cm suits a compact sitting room, 200 x 300 cm takes a three seater with two armchairs, and 250 x 350 cm or 300 x 400 cm cover a large living area.

Cord was designed by Layered together with Massproductions, a Swedish design studio. Bhadohi in India is where weavers produce it on hand looms, from 100% wool, roughly 15 mm high, and it can lie on underfloor heating. Handwork brings small variations in size and tone. The striped wool drops a few strands in its first weeks. Hoover it with suction alone, never the beater bar or spinning brush, and blot spills quickly with a dry cloth.
