x Massproductions Cord Burgundy Rust Rug

There is a particular glow old terracotta pots take on in late sun, and the Cord Burgundy Rust rug captures it. It is a rust orange wool weave crossed lengthways by darker burgundy stripes, with a chunky hand woven structure that resembles plaited rope and soft fringes at both short ends.

In a converted barn with whitewashed walls, exposed beams and a long linen sofa, the rust brings warmth to all that height and timber. Upstairs it softens a whitewashed bedroom with a simple wooden chair. As a runner, the 75 x 240 cm size is ideal for a kitchen or a narrow hall. Choose 140 x 200 cm for a bedside, 180 x 270 cm for a compact living room, 200 x 300 cm under a sofa and coffee table, 250 x 350 cm for a roomier setting and 300 x 400 cm for a large open space.

Layered developed the Cord collection with the Swedish design studio Massproductions. This piece comes off a hand loom in Bhadohi, India, in 100% wool about 15 mm deep, and underfloor heating poses no problem. Each one is handmade, so expect a little variation in size and colour. Expect the odd stray strand at the outset, quieter as the months pass. Vacuum regularly with no beater bar, and press a dry cloth onto any spill straight away.
