x Massproductions Cord Yellow Oatmeal Rug

Salt air, a blue door, and inside, a rug with a little sunshine in it, Cord Yellow Oatmeal. It is a warm oatmeal wool weave traced with yellow lines from end to end, its chunky hand woven texture relaxed and tactile, with fringes at both short ends partly worked in yellow for a playful finish.

It feels at home in a seaside cottage in Cornwall, set on limed boards with a black boucle armchair, tan leather and pale painted walls. Lay the 75 x 240 cm runner in the boot room or along the kitchen, where sandy feet and wet dogs come and go. In the bedroom, 140 x 200 cm works well. Downstairs, 180 x 270 cm suits a small sitting room, 200 x 300 cm frames a sofa with its coffee table, 250 x 350 cm fills a larger lounge and 300 x 400 cm covers an open living space.

This design comes from Cord, the collection Layered created with Massproductions, a design studio based in Sweden. It is hand woven in Bhadohi, India, from pure wool, about 15 mm high, and works with underfloor heating. Handmade means slight variation in size and tone. A bit of shedding at the start is quite normal for new wool. Vacuum without a rotating brush, and blot any spill with a dry cloth.
