x Tom Morris Ryg Dandelion Rug

Some rugs simply make you smile, and this one in Ryg Dandelion is a fine example. Sunny yellow lattice and small chocolate squares sit on an off white ground, framed by a crisp border. It takes the bold geometry of Welsh blankets and makes it light, fresh and a little playful.

In a rented flat with laminate floors, it is the quickest way to make a room feel like your own, and with white linen in a bedroom it looks like morning sun across the floor. Around a double bed, 200 x 300 cm leaves a soft margin on each side. 180 x 270 cm works in a guest room or study, 140 x 200 cm by the bed or a desk, and 250 x 350 cm or 300 x 400 cm in a living room. The 75 x 240 cm and 80 x 300 cm runners brighten a hallway.

Tom Morris, an interior architect based in London with his practice Morrisstudio, designed Ryg for CLOTH by Layered, taking the pattern from Welsh blankets and the colours from the North Wales coast. Hand woven in 100% wool, it is made in Bhadohi, India, where a pit loom gives it a firm, flat surface of about 6 mm. Underfloor heating is fine. Every piece carries tiny differences in size and shade. The pale ground likes a regular vacuum, without a rotating brush, and quick blotting after any spill. Early shedding is perfectly normal.
