Columns Multi Color Rug

Is it possible for a rug to be playful and precise at once? This multicolour rug answers yes, with blocks of charcoal, brick red, orange and cornflower blue stacked in columns on a neutral ground. The double layered weave gives every block a slight lift, and the colourway takes its lead from Anni Albers, the Bauhaus weaver famous for her studies in colour.

In a loft in a converted warehouse, with exposed brick, steel windows and a pale sofa, it brings the colour that bare industrial rooms often lack. Chrome and black lacquer suit it well. Choose 140 x 200 cm for a bedroom or home office, 170 x 240 cm or 200 x 300 cm for a living room, and 250 x 350 cm or 300 x 400 cm beneath a long sofa or a dining table for eight.

Made in India on a handloom worked by two weavers without power, it combines 80% wool with 20% cotton. The rug is about 15 mm thick, slimming to 10 mm in the 250 x 350 cm and 300 x 400 cm sizes, with its double layer finished by hand and fringes at the short ends. It sits happily on underfloor heating. Size and tone vary slightly. Washing is not an option here. Run the vacuum with no beater bar or rotating brush, soak up spills by dabbing with a dry white cloth, cut away loose yarn with scissors, and trust professionals with any thorough clean.
