Early light over the coast, before the day has made up its mind. Cloud 9 Morning is a blue grey rug with lighter bands of cloud drifting across it, and the play between flat woven areas and tufted pile gives those bands real depth, especially when the light comes in low.
Blue grey is wonderfully easy with white walls and pale wood. In a new build living room with large windows, combine it with an oatmeal sofa, an oak coffee table and a few pieces of pottery in petrol and sand. The 200 x 300 cm size grounds a three seater with an armchair, while the 140 x 200 cm version is ideal for a home office or beside a bed.
Made by hand in India for the Danish brand Massimo Copenhagen, Cloud 9 combines weaving and tufting in 100% New Zealand wool. It is fine on underfloor heating. Handwork brings small differences in dimensions and shade from one piece to the next. A little shedding is normal while the wool is new, and it fades with steady vacuuming using a nozzle that does not spin. Spills respond best to a quick, firm blot.
