Not quite grey, not quite beige, Soft Grey is the greige that interior designers reach for when a room needs to breathe. Here it comes as a short, lightly mottled pile, and the bamboo silk adds a pearly sheen that brightens on a sunny morning and settles in the evening.
It earns its place in a new build bedroom where white walls and light carpet can feel a bit blank: put it under the end of the bed with a wool throw in stone and a pale oak bench. It also suits a reading room with a deep armchair. Pick 140 x 200 cm by the bed, either 170 x 240 cm or 200 x 300 cm around a sofa, and either of the two largest sizes to cover a bigger floor.
The Earth Bamboo range is handwoven in India for Danish Massimo Copenhagen, and every rug is 50% New Zealand wool with 50% bamboo silk. It can lie on underfloor heating. Small irregularities in size and colour come with handmade work. Avoid any water on the surface and blot spills quickly before they spread. Run the vacuum with the brush disengaged, and entrust stains or a full clean to professionals.
