Remember the jeans you wore every summer until they turned soft and pale? Karma Washed Blue has exactly that faded denim colour, running in lighter and darker clouds across the surface. The bamboo silk adds a shimmer as you walk past, and it feels soft and slightly cool under bare feet.
It brings a relaxed, almost seaside mood to a bedroom: crisp white bedding, an oak chest, a rattan chair and a window onto the garden of a 1930s semi. In a quiet sitting room it grounds a dove grey sofa, limewashed walls and a black reading lamp, and the washed effect stops the room from looking too new. Next to a double bed, 160 x 230 cm is right, and 250 x 350 cm suits a large living space.
Massimo Copenhagen has this rug woven by hand in India, entirely from bamboo silk, and it can go over underfloor heating. Handmade pieces differ a little in measurement and tint. Water is best avoided altogether: blot accidents straight away, vacuum without a brush, and book a professional when a proper clean is due. A 200 x 300 cm size is available too.
