Harmony HAY05 Grey Gold Rug

Candlelight on an old brass tray gives you an idea of what happens when daylight meets this rug in HAY05 Grey Gold. Warm gold wanders through soft grey in a loose, abstract pattern, and the viscose in the yarn has a quiet sheen, so the gold seems to brighten as you pass by.

It suits a Georgian townhouse with tall sash windows particularly well, where long shafts of light reach the floor and play across the pile. Pair it with a grey sofa, a brass floor lamp and a marble topped side table for a drawing room with a hint of glamour, or bring that warmth to a serene bedroom. For a three seater and armchairs, 236 x 297 cm works well. 259 x 351 cm gives a generous seating area room to breathe, while 297 x 419 cm is meant for a big open plan room.

Woven by hand in India, the rug is made of 44% wool, 44% viscose and 12% polyester, with a high low cut pile of roughly 11 mm and a borderless design. Underfloor heating poses no difficulty. Some shedding is normal in the early weeks and fades as you vacuum, and handwork brings small variations in measurement and colour. Vacuum without the beater bar, spot clean promptly with a damp cloth, and book a professional when a full clean is due.
