Harmony HAY06 Silver Grey Rug

Weathered slate on a Cornish quay comes close to the mood of this rug in HAY06 Silver Grey. Silver, dove grey and taupe are layered into an abstract design with the feel of worn stone, while a soft sheen from the viscose and the carved relief of the pile invite a hand to brush across it.

It belongs in a converted barn, where exposed oak beams and lime washed walls need something quiet but textural at floor level. A cream sofa, chunky linen cushions and a dark metal coffee table sit beautifully on it, and it is just as content beside concrete in a more modern loft. Allow 236 x 297 cm for a sofa with armchairs, 259 x 351 cm for a bigger seating area, and 297 x 419 cm for a spacious open plan room where the rug defines the living zone.

Hand woven in India, it combines 44% wool, 44% viscose and 12% polyester in a high low cut pile of around 11 mm, with no border. You can lay it over underfloor heating. Fluff appears on the vacuum for the first while and gradually eases, and because it is handmade, the size and tone may differ slightly. Use a vacuum with no beater bar, tackle spots the moment they happen with a damp cloth, and leave thorough cleaning to the experts.
