Verdigris is the word that comes to mind. Torino 063.0078.3249 from Tapison Home blends teal and chocolate brown yarns so closely that neither wins, and tiny flecks of ochre surface between them like the bloom on an old copper pan. Fine lines run down its length, and a dark brown bound edge frames the whole.
Picture it in a bay fronted Edwardian front room painted a deep green, with a cognac leather armchair and olive linen curtains, and it feels as if it has always been there. On pale oak it gives the sofa a firm anchor, on dark stained boards it settles back quietly. For a three seater and a pair of chairs, 200 x 290 cm is the size to aim for, 240 x 330 cm suits a larger room, and Ø 160 or Ø 200 cm works under a round table.
Torino belongs to the Tapison Home collection and is machine woven from polyester, with a close 11 mm pile. It suits underfloor heating and holds its colour well in a sunny room. A steady routine of vacuuming keeps it fresh, spills should be dabbed with a damp cloth rather than scrubbed, and turning it round every few months spreads the wear.
