Petrol blue, faded as if by years of salt air, with warm taupe and grey breaking through in patches. Torino 063.0078.5249 from Tapison Home looks softly weathered rather than box fresh, a little like sea glass or old paint on a beach hut door. Fine lines in the weave add depth to the dense, velvety pile.
Because the blue is muted it slips into most rooms. Pair it with whitewashed boards, stone and linen in a seaside cottage, or with walnut, mustard and rust in a lofty mansion block flat around a marble fireplace. Its binding is slate grey, so the border stays discreet. Allow 200 x 290 cm when a three seater faces two armchairs, or 280 x 380 cm when the whole seating group should stand on it.
Torino is a polyester rug, made on the loom by machine for Tapison Home, its pile cut to 11 mm. It stays colourfast, is happy on underfloor heating and needs little beyond the vacuum. Should anything spill, blot rather than scrub, using a cloth that is just damp. Turning the rug end to end twice a year keeps it even.
