Mushroom, mink, taupe: call it what you like, this greyish brown is the shade that settles arguments between warm and cool. Torino 063.0078.8283 from Tapison Home is flecked with copper and darker espresso, which gives depth to an otherwise gentle colour and a quiet glow at dusk.
It gets along with every shade of oak, with oatmeal or stone linen, and with a dash of rust, olive or black. In an Edwardian bedroom with a cast iron fireplace it feels cocooning, and in a family living room it softens the space without pulling focus from the furniture. Choose 160 x 230 cm under a double bed, or 200 x 290 cm under a king size so the rug shows generously on three sides.
Torino is machine woven polyester with a dense pile 11 mm deep, chosen by Tapison Home for rooms that see everyday life. Underfloor heating is fine. The colour does not fade easily. Vacuuming keeps the pile lively, and a damp cloth pressed gently onto any spill, without rubbing, takes care of accidents.
