Louis de Poortere has woven jacquard rugs in Belgium since 1859. Not handwoven but machine-woven on jacquard looms: the pattern sits within the weave structure itself rather than printed on top, which is why the surface does not fade with use and why each design reads with a precision that printed alternatives cannot match. Atlantic Streaks: for Coastal and Garden Spaces
The Atlantic Streaks collection takes its name and its design logic from the coastlines of the North Atlantic: shifting sands, ocean movement, the abstract geometry of water and wind. The pattern references are loose and organic, the palette runs from deep ocean blues and coastal greys to warm sand and driftwood neutrals. In a British coastal home, a converted barn, a garden room or a sitting room where the outside is always present in the view, Atlantic Streaks finds its context immediately. Antiquarian and Fading World: for Rooms with History
For period properties, Victorian terraces and rooms that carry architectural character of their own, Antiquarian and Fading World offer a different order of conversation. Antiquarian draws directly from the great weaving traditions: Ushak from Turkey, Hadschlu from Persia, Suzani from Central Asia, Tabriz and Kasak from the Caucasus. Each series takes a specific historical source and translates it into jacquard with a distressed, slightly faded finish that gives a classical motif contemporary validity. Fading World works on the same principle but through colour rather than reference: tones are layered and graduated across medallion formats to create the impression of accumulated time. Both collections are frequently chosen for British living rooms where the rug is expected to anchor a room with strong architectural detail without competing with it.
Berber and Virgin Land: the Bestsellers
The Berber collection is the most requested across the range. Geometrically precise but organically toned, with Caidal, Ksar, Oasis and Erg offering four distinct readings of the same warm, earthen palette, it works in almost any British interior from a north London flat to a Somerset farmhouse. Mad Men Griff applies the highest graphic intensity in the range: hard lines, strong contrast, unmistakably modern in character. For contemporary urban interiors it is the most direct choice Louis de Poortere makes. The Cities collection takes a different contemporary route: loose, layered forms with an exotic geographic sensibility, including Dubai among its references, suited to rooms that want something less expected from the floor.
Washable, Outdoor-Ready and Underfloor Heating Compatible
The entire Ecorugs range, which now encompasses virtually the full Louis de Poortere collection, is machine washable at 30 degrees, suitable for underfloor heating, outdoor-compatible for covered spaces including patios and garden rooms, and built with an integrated anti-slip backing. No separate underlay required. 70 per cent of the polyester used is recycled from plastic bottles. A QR code on the reverse connects to the Take Care programme, through which any Ecorug can be returned for recycling when it reaches end of life.
